Facts about Indonesia!

After a month in Indonesia, I've learned some facts about Indonesia that makes this country unique! Of course the food is amazing and the people are very polite and friendly but here's more...

  1. Peanut sauce is used in pretty much everything they eat!
  2. Education is not free. One of the few countries in the world where education is not a right.
  3. They have an instrument unique to Indonesia called Udjo.
  4. The word Jalan has more than one meaning  (Street, walk, to go somewhere, work and more) and its really confusing.
  5. Traffic is unbelievable. There's traffic all day long. As Canadians we have no right to complain.
  6. Lettuce is used to wipe the oil off our hands after eating.
  7. The taxi drivers don't really know the city that well. Either that or almost every single taxi driver ripped me off by "getting lost"
  8. Almost everything they eat is deep fried.
  9. The malls are nothing compared to what we have in Canada. They are huge, elaborate, fancy, high-end and cool here.
  10. Indonesia has a King and Queen and they live in this province called Yogyakarta (Jog-ja-kar-ta).
  11. The largest flower is found in Indonesia and it can grow up to 7 - 12 feet.

Hope these cool facts give you a better picture of Indonesia!! I will continue look out for more facts about Indonesia and keep everyone posted! :D
